Doubt discovers difficulties which it never solves; it creates hesitancy, despondency, despair. Its
progress is the decay of comfort, the death of peace. “Believe!” is the word which speaks life into a man, but doubt nails down his coffin. – Charles Spurgeon

Doubt, Victorious, Faith

Resisting the urge to doubt God is not easy, just ask Sarah! By definition, we know that doubting God is to lack confidence in Him, or to consider that His promises are unlikely to come to pass. To doubt God is to be uncertain that He can come through for us. On the other hand it is also true that doubt is a necessary element of faith. If it weren’t for doubt, we would never have the opportunity for our faith to be stretched.

The question then becomes, how we respond to doubt when it rears its ugly head. Doubt can be dangerous – so dangerous that A.W. Pink speaks to doubt as poison:

  • Satan is ever seeking to inject that poison [doubt] into our hearts to distrust God’s goodness –     especially in connection with His commandments. That is what really lies behind all evil, lusting and disobedience; a discontent with our position and portion, a craving from something which God has wisely held from us.

When it comes to doubt, we have much to glean from Sarah’s life. It is comforting to know that like you and me, Sarah struggled in her faith, and she did not always set a good example. John
MacArthur, in his book, Twelve Extraordinary Women, describes her this way.

  • Let’s be honest: there are times in the biblical account when Sarah comes off as a bit of a shrew… It is impossible not to notice that she sometimes behaved badly. She could throw fits and tantrums. By no means was she always the perfect model of godly grace and meekness. Sarah was not perfect in her faith and neither are we, but we do know that ultimately, doubt did not get the best of her life. Sarah’s life on the whole is actually characterized by humility, meekness, hospitality, faithfulness, deep affection for her husband, sincere love toward God, and hope that never died.

Faith sees the way!
Doubt sees the darkest night,
Faith sees the day!
Doubt dreads to take a step.
Faith soars on high!
Doubt questions, “Who believes?”
Faith answers, “I!”

Hebrews 11:11 provides us with insight into her victory:

  • By faith Sarah herself also received strength to conceive seed, and she bore a child when she was past the age, because she judged Him faithful who had promised.

Don’t allow doubt to steal away your promise – Hold fast to the One who is faithful!

Victorious:

Lessons from Old Testament Women Who Walked

Victoriously with God

Victorious is about women who walked in victoriously with God.Women, very much like you and me, who didn’t have it all together, but loved God. His love saw them through trials, painful circumstances and struggles and brought about His perfect will in their lives. We make a grievous error when we believe that the women in the Bible are somehow irrelevant to the lives we are living today. These women were meant to be our heroines, our comrades and our closest friends. Their lives stand as a testimony to the power of God’s love and faithfulness. This study is a tribute to the women in the Old Testament, who knew their God and understood His love and they leave a legacy of victory.
